Souterrain Presents - Neon Islands + Lake Malawi + Fond of Rudy
Sat, 6 May 2017, 19:00 – Sun, 7 May 2017, 02:00 BST
Back for a second time at Strongrooms we welcome one of our favourite Brighton bands full of South Eastern calypso indie pop. With a string of live dates and off the back of Canadian Music Week in Toronto, these boys put on a fun packed show and one not to be missed.
Neon Islands is a shared shelter between four musicians from different countries who came together to craft electric, fresh and fluorescent songs.Neon Islands is a complete different musical experience to whatever you may have listened to before. Atmospheric keyboards, shimmery bold guitar, deep vocals, thick dynamic bass and raw drums will take the audience to an alternative resort that won't be the same twice
Part of their UK tour, a full on band show with all the bells and whistles our friends Lake Malawi from Prague bring their second set as part of a Strongrooms double header.
Lake Malawi are an alternative-pop band forme...d in 2013 citing The Police, Bombay Bicycle Club, Prefab Sprout, Crowded House and early Coldplay as their main influences. The four-piece dividing time between North London and Prague have had staggering milestones, having opened for Thirty Seconds to Mars and released their debut EP after performing at The Great Escape in 2015 (review). Gaining support from BBC 6 Music (Tom Robinson) and BBC London (Simon Lederman, Gary Crowley), the group won the Audition Poll on Amazing Radio with the single ‘Chinese Trees’. The front man's previous band, ‘Charlie Straight’, were tipped by The Guardian and VICE and supported The Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Emerging with fresh, strong material and a swarm of dedicated fans, Albert Černý is now set for a month-long tour around London and Brighton with Lake Malawi attracting labels and booking agents while still being unsigned. The group further consisting of Jeroným Šubrt (bass and keys), Patrick Karpentski (guitars) & Antonín Hrabal (drums) have released the first single ‘Prague (In The City)’ from their upcoming album Surrounded By Light, which is to be released by the end 2017.
