AGE RATING: (PG)

IMDb: 7.5 / 10.

Between 6:30pm and 7:00pm, just before the main feature FILM, we’ll be showcasing short films by talented emerging filmmakers.

Devdas is a grand, emotionally intense saga of love, pride, and self-destruction. Set in early 20th-century Bengal, it follows Devdas Mukherjee, the sensitive son of a wealthy landowner, who returns from London to reunite with his childhood love, Paro. But their happiness is short-lived — Devdas’s family disapproves of Paro’s lower social status, forcing them apart.

Unable to reconcile his heartbreak with his pride, Devdas spirals into despair, seeking solace in alcohol and the compassion of Chandramukhi, a kind-hearted courtesan who loves him without condition. As he drifts further from redemption, the film explores the tragic consequences of societal pressure, emotional repression, and lost love.

Lavish in scale and operatic in tone, Devdas is a visually dazzling classic of Indian cinema, featuring unforgettable performances by Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, and Madhuri Dixit, with a haunting score and breathtaking set design. It remains a timeless tale of doomed passion and inner torment.
