About this Event

South Asian women & Mental health: exploring barriers and effective support

This is an introduction session for people wanting to explore how they understand and better support the unique experience of ill mental health for south Asian women.

The session focuses on helping practitioners identify barriers South Asian women may experience when experiencing mental health issues. We will also use some time introducing a framework to help practitioners work alongside cultural norms to help break barriers women face and be comfortable having conversations about cultural understandings they may not necessarily understand.

The session is a Zoom workshop style with interactive elements. We work with professionals to boost your cultural competence, challenge myths and strengthen practitioner’s knowledge and confidence to work effectively with South Asian communities and other communities of BAMER backgrounds.

This session is for anyone who works with women and families and are looking to particular engage with the specific barriers BAMER people may face in regard to mental health and support. We work with anyone who works with women and families, from schools to social workers.
