South Bank Cardboard Extravaganza Life Drawing
Inspired by our location in master draughtsman Feliks Topolski’s South Bank Studio, we seek to revive his commitment not only to continual drawing, but also for throwing open his studio door and welcoming all intrigued with art-making to share in his passion.
Each week we have a theme of an artist or historical period, with an elaborate cardboard set and props alongside a model to help the theme come to life. All abilities are welcome at this class, with hands on teaching tailored to each participant. This is life drawing with a focus on context and imagination, breaking up the stuffy traditions of formalistic life drawing set-ups, instead taking inspiration from the movement and theatrical elements of Topolski's work.
Past themes include:
- Picasso's etchings
- Medieval Manuscripts
Please arrive a few minutes before the session to get set up with an easel/space and materials. Coloured sugar paper and cartridge paper are available for a small cost, and a wide range of materials are availible to use at no extra charge.
