Youth Action: Broxhead Common Nature Recovery
A chance to Join Heathland Ranger, Kirsty, for nature conservation and wildlife habitat restoration around Broxhead Common.
Help to remove topsoil and vegetation to create “scrapes” (areas of bare ground) on the heathland to provide vital habitat for species, such as reptiles. We will be hand digging the scrapes with a variety of hand tools. No previous experience is necessary as you will be shown how to use all of the equipment for the task. While on site there will be an opportunity to learn about the heathland species that call this area home and how your work will support them in the coming months.
Broxhead Common sits on the boundary of the South Downs National Park and is part of the Wealden Heaths Phase II Special Protection Area. The site is home to some extremely rare bird, reptile and invertebrate species.
It is an area of lowland heath just north of Bordon in Hampshire. Expect undulating sandy tracks around the site which is a mixture of woodland and heathland vegetation such as gorse and heather.
