Event description

Description

This event will bring together doctoral students and academics across the range of social sciences for talks and competition. This event is primarily intended to showcase the excellence of our students (via our competitions), to hear talks on issues relevant across the disciplines and to give an opportunity for disciplinary and interdisciplinary networking.

The programme of events will include:

  • Keynote academic talks
  • Pecha Kutcha Competition (with a prize for the student with the top voted presentation)
  • Poster competition (also with a prize, for the poster voted highest by conference attendees)
  • Interdisciplinary student-led sessions
  • Drinks reception sponsored by Sage Publishing

Conference Theme:

This year's conference theme is Shifting Sands: society and policy at a time of change. The event will explore how social science can explain recent political shifts and their potential impact on public policy and society at large.

Keynote Speaker:

Jason Reifler, Professor of Political Science at the University of Exeter will be our keynote speaker.

The conference is open to members (students and academics) of South East DTC and SENSS institutions. Those attending are encouraged to register early. This particularly applies to postgraduate researchers who may be keen to be part of one or both of the competitions.

The conference is free to attend.

Deadline for Registration: 9:00 am Monday 26 June.

FAQs

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

We would strongly suggest that attendees use public transport to travel to the venue. There is no parking available at CASS Business School. Information on travel options and how to find CASS Business School can be found at https://www.cass.city.ac.uk/more-about-cass/find-us.

Current ESRC funded SEDTC and SeNSS students should contact their host institutions to enquire about assistance with travel costs.

ESRC-funded SeNSS researchers due to start in October 2017 should also contact their host institutions to enquire about assistance with travel costs.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Please send an email to studentships@southeastdtc.ac.uk.

What should I do if I can't attend?

You should email studentships@southeastdtc.ac.uk as soon as possible and preferably no later than 48 hours before the event. We need to confirm final numbers for catering no later than Wednesday 28 June 2017.

What can I bring into the event?

Just bring yourself, maybe a pen and paper and a willingness to get involved and network with other postgraduate researchers and academics from the social sciences.
