Event Details

We look forward to welcoming you at the next meeting of the South East Homelessness Forum, being kindly hosted by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council on Tuesday 21 November 2017, 9.30-3.30  https://www.basingstoke.gov.uk/visitus.

Alongside hearing from our hosts and having updates from DCLG, the National Housing Forum and Homeless Link, we are planning to run a session in the morning on Systems Leadership, delivered by Debbie Sorkin, National Director of Systems Leadership at the Leadership Centre (www.leadershipcentre.org.uk).

Debbie has spoken at SEHF events before, but this will be an opportunity for you to explore how Systems Leadership can help us in homelessness and allied sectors.

For those unfamiliar with it, Systems Leadership is about how you lead, how you make change happen, and how you keep it going, when you’re not in charge.  So it’s about how you lead when there’s no management lever to pull, and when you need to work together with people who might have very different perspectives, priorities and sometimes even language to you.

It’s a really useful tool to have in your armoury when you’re working in complex situations, looking to work in partnership, and needing to build relationships across other sectors and organisations.  In other words, it’s tailor-made for people working in homelessness and other public services.

Please note that you don’t have to be a manager to be a leader in systems leadership, so this session will be useful if you are interested in how you bring your skills, knowledge and qualities, from whatever level you operate at, to a team of people wanting to lead change.

Debbie will draw on learning from research and practice, including a national A&E programme backed by local and national government, the NHS and public health, to introduce ideas around Systems Leadership, show how it works, and identify where it might help.  This will be a practical and interactive session, with an emphasis on what works and what doesn’t, alongside opportunities for you to try out Systems Leadership approaches for yourself and reflect on how you might apply the ideas to real-time issues you’re facing.

For those who can stay, there will also be an opportunity to look at specific issues in more depth in workshops in the afternoon.

There is no charge to attend this event.

We look forward to seeing you on the day.
