South Gloucestershire Race Equality Network (SGREN) are holding their first Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Arrival for 6:30pm with light refreshments

SGREN aims to provide a voice for BME people who work and live within South Gloucestershire, come along to find out more about our work and how you might like to get involved.

Key note speaker Roger Griffith, Executive Chair and Director of Strategy and Partnerships for Ujima Radio CIC.

''Roger is a social entrepreneur and broadcaster involved in several community and social action projects. He is Executive Chair and Director of Strategy & Partnerships for Ujima Radio CIC where he is also a radio-presenter as The G-Man. He is also the MD for 2morrow 2day Community Consultants connecting businesses and organisations with the many talented communities in Bristol. These initiatives include consultation, media, employment and diversity projects. In the 1980’s Roger had long periods of unemployment before rediscovering education and moved from a trainee to a senior manager in local government where he specialised in social housing, empowering communities and working on a number of schemes to develop BAME (Black Asian Minority Ethnic) staff. A keen writer he published his first book ‘My American Odyssey-From the Windrush to the White House Volume One’ in 2015. He published his first book in 2015 about the American Deep-South comparing and contrasting America and Britain during the term of the first black president and his own families journey from the Caribbean. He is an artistic producer, a contributor to the online cultural magazine Bristol 24/7 and a film curator with the Come the Revolution collective at Bristol Watershed. In March of 2018 Roger was awarded the Lord Mayor’s Medal for his community and voluntary work on race equality.''

Key note speaker Abishek Ravindran MSc IMeche APM, Marine Engineering Manager for Ministry of Defence.

“Growing up in a small town in India I had never foreseen opportunities and challenges which I will face in future. I was passionate in science which lead me to the path of engineering studies both in India and UK and worked in various companies as progressing from a Draftsman to a Senior Mechanical Engineer in 10 years. In my current job as an Engineering Manager at MOD I have a responsibility to make sure our UK Armed Forces is equipped with the state of the art technology which they can maintain while serving the nation. Also being a Part-time Professor in Engineering I currently engaging with the younger generations to shape them to future challenges. As a responsible member in community I volunteer to engage and develop the local South Indians by promoting cultural activities and social integration workshops within the South Gloucestershire area”


The AGM will be held at WISE Campus.
