Description

WTC Explore provides you with the opportunity to go deeper into the Bible, grow in your faith and integrate quality teaching with life in the Spirit.

Theme: War & Peace in the Bible

Divine and human violence in in the Bible pose real problems for Christians. What do we do with the command to slaughter and destroy the inhabitants of Canaan? Can we pray the violent psalms? Is the God revealed in Christ the same God who drowned almost all creation in the flood? In the morning sessions, Matt Lynch will take up these questions (and yours) and offer you a few tools for grappling with troubling texts. In the afternoon, we will look at what it means to pursue peace through the gift of Sabbath.

Speaker: Dr Matthew Lynch

Matt teaches Old Testament and serves as Dean of Studies at WTC. Matt is the author of Monotheism and Institutions in the Book of Chronicles (Mohr Siebeck, 2014) and various articles on the Old Testament. He also co-hosts a podcast on biblical studies (onscript.study) and blogs regularly at theologicalmisc.net. Matt is particularly interested in helping students grasp the theological and literary contours of the Old Testament, wrestle through its ethical and historical challenges, and understand its ongoing significance. Matt is married and has two children.
