Event description

Description

Who has driven down Fabian Way, to or from Swansea, and slowed down to look at the progress of the impressive new Swansea University Bay Campus?

The 2017 Christmas meeting of the South Wales Cyber Security Cluster is being hosted in the Great Hall of this amazing campus, which is now up and running and brimming over with students.

In October, Hillary Clinton visited the Campus to receive an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws in recognition of her commitment to promoting the rights of families and children around the world and to unveil a commemorative stone to mark the renaming of Swansea University’s College of Law & Criminology to the "Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law". Hillary Clinton's family originates in Wales with Great Grandparents from Abergavenny, Llangynidr and Pembrokeshire who emigrated to the USA to start the famous Pennsylvania family.

The Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law are sponsoring our meeting which will mark the launch of a new member of the Cyber Wales Ecosystem - the IP Cluster - being run in conjunction with IP Wales, an award winning business support initiative operating out of the School. IP Wales recognises that cybercriminals are increasingly coming to recognise the value of confidential data held by Welsh SMEs, be it sensitive information about the business operation or customer information. The aim of both IP Wales and the IP Cluster is to help Welsh SMEs in their use of the Intellectual Property system with close working relationships with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and the UK Intellectual Property Office. Andrew Beale, Associate Professor at Swansea University will give a presentation on the IP Wales Cybercrime initiative (2017-20) and explain how the IP Cluster will work moving forward.

There will also be a presentation on the new £32m Computational Foundry currently being built on the site which is fast becoming an impressive addition to the Swansea Bay skyline. This facility will act as a beacon for research collaborations and will look to attract leading researchers to Wales and make a solid contribution to computational cyber security.

‌‌In addition, there will be a Tour of the Campus to showcase these brand new facilities that are now being used on a day-to-day basis.

Being the Christmas meeting, there will undoubtedly be an appetite for some mince pies and Cluster member, Dr Kerry Beynon of Acuity Legal, has very kindly offered to sponsor a Xmas Buffet

Please register early for what promises to be a very special Cluster Meeting.
