Attention all classroom teachers and subject leaders:
We are delighted to invite you to attend a FREE primary science CPD session run by award winning teachers from the Primary Science Teaching Trust hosted at the Outwood Institute of Education Conference Centre (DN6 7EQ) on Friday, 4 July 2025, from 12:30 to 16:00.
Attendees will take part in three workshops delivered across the afternoon. Please indicate your preferred sessions (select at least four). Sessions will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, and we will do our best to accommodate preferences.
Sessions include:
- Diverse representation in primary science
Children are often presented with a very narrow view of scientists and the sorts of people they are. This session reflects on how this impacts our pupils and their aspirations and looks at a range of ways to promote diversity through science provision, drawing on a range of free resources.
Practical Graphing will look at how we can support children from EYFS to Y6 to understand and share their results in graph form and what this might look like in a classroom and in a lesson, starting by making the graph practically before we ask them to draw one.
- A Thinking Frames approach to support Inclusive Teaching
During the session, we will look at the benefits of using a Thinking Frame and consider how the frame can help good practice in the classroom. Delegates will then get an opportunity to create a frame and consider how to build the frame into lesson plans.
- Teaching Primary Science Outdoors
This practical session explores a range of ways to deliver primary science beyond the classroom boundaries.
- Science Subject Leadership and the Ofsted Inspection Framework
This workshop aims to support science leaders to prepare for an Ofsted inspection by empowering them to demonstrate impact, evidence progress and showcase high-quality science provision in their school. The session will cover the Ofsted Inspection Framework, including the monitoring of science across school to help leaders feel confident in their role.
