Description

*** YOU WILL BE EMAILED PRIOR TO THE EVENT - PLEASE REPLY TO CONFIRM YOUR ATTENDANCE ***

Join us for an evening of short film and documentary screenings at BFI Southbank. Here's an opportunity to discover more about the history of Southall and its South Asian community, network with creative talent and find out how you can get involved with MADE's future projects.

Film-making charity MADE was awarded heritage lottery funding to complete a year-long project called Southall on Film. Young Londoners aged 16 - 25 received training and support to produce multimedia outputs which included recording oral histories, short films on digital and 16mm film and a documentary to explore the relationship of the town's South Asian migrant community and film. Participants researched the town’s South Asian immigrant experience and the evolution of film consumption to base their productions on.

In a time where the rise of right wing politics sees Brexit and Donald Trump triumph now more than ever the migrant experience should be celebrated to increase understanding between London’s diverse communities.

“This was a fantastic opportunity for young people to conduct local history research and develop skills to enable them to produce heritage materials that appeal to their generation.” said Project Manager Blaise Singh.

RSVP to book your seats. Latecomers will not be permitted to enter.
