Interactive resources for teaching Python

AboutSession content
Loosely based on the concept of 'Literate Programming' (Knuth. D., 1984; Millman, K.J. & Perez,F., 2014), use of the Jupyter environment allows for a 'prose first' approach to the teaching of the Python programming language . The two hour session will be split into a first session introducing the Jupyter Notebook contained within the Anaconda environment followed by a basic introduction to Python. Using Markdown and Code cells within the Jupyter notebook environment resources will be created to support teaching of the following Python concepts: •variables •functions •code blocks •boolean operators • loops •lists • dictionaries •data retrieval
Human friendly text punctuated with executable blocks of code is presented in a browser helping pupils to figure what the problem is and what is required to solve the problem before writing a line of code. If time permits we will also cover •Objects and classes •Importing •Style guide and conventions •Libraries
When code is written is is executed on the same page as the text removing the need to swap between a text document and a programming environment.Requirements: To access the Jupyter notebook environment Anaconda software should be installed on your laptop.

CAS Hub: CAS Southampton hub ================== This hub has been renamed from the CAS Wessex hub as it is now permanently hosted by the University of Southampton, STEM Learning and is hosted by Tig Williams, Rob Blair, Phil Bagge and Les Carr. The current plan is to hold regular hub meetings at the University of Southampton (at least once per term) and include practical training where necessary based on the original "Computing & Cake" pilot project set up by Les Carr. Recently the hub has been opened to cover primary and secondary sectors.
