CALLING ALL FUTURE PAEDIATRICIANS - Come along for a busy day of exciting talks and interactive workshops.

Speakers include:

  • Dr Ollie Bevington - Paediatric Registrar, Chair of RCPCH Trainees Committee Dr Bevington is an ST7 in Paediatrics in Wessex as well as Chair of the RCPCH Trainees Committee. Having initially studied Psychology, Dr Bevington studied graduate-entry medicine at the University of Leicester in 2005. Dr. Bevington is hugely passionate about Paediatrics (it’s the only specialty he chose after FY2 & he sticks by that!) as well as Team Wessex. He is a general Paediatrician in the making (although does enjoy the challenge of Oncology and Palliative Care). He also loves teaching as well as his College role.
  • Dr Fiona Hignett - Paediatric Registrar, RCPCH Trainee Representative for Wessex Dr. Hignett is currently an ST5 paediatric registrar undertaking out of programme experience as the Southampton Children’s Hospital Education and Quality Improvement Fellow. Dr. Hignett has a keen interest in medical education and simulation and is currently undertaking a Masters in Quality Improvement, Patient Safety and Simulation at the university of Plymouth. For some time she was the trainee lead for the ST2/3 monthly training days, and has recently become the RCPCH Trainee Representative for Wessex.
  • Dr Michael Griksaitis - MBBS(Hons) MSc MRCPCH FFICM, Consultant Paediatric Intensivist Dr Griksaitis is a PICU consultant for Southampton Children's Hospital and the Paediatric Critical Care Southampton Oxford Retrieval Service. He is the clinical lead for paediatric organ donation for the children's hospital and has a specific interest in cardiac intensive care, resuscitation physiology, organ donation and medical education.
  • Ms. Sally Boxall - MSc RGN, RM - Consultant Fetal Nurse Ms Boxall works as a consultant nurse in fetal medicine, supporting families whose babies have been found to have abnormalities before birth or who have problems with the pregnancy. She originally trained as a nurse and a midwife, and then worked as a specialist nurse in genetics for 10 years. The Wessex fetal medicine unit was set up as a tertiary referral unit for the region in 1996, and she has worked there since, initially as a specialist midwife and then consultant nurse.
  • Professor R Mark Beattie - Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist, Honorary Professor of Paediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Currently, he is the clinical lead in the Southampton Paediatric IBD Genetics and Research team and has published widely in the area of Paediatric Gastroenterology with more than 100 PubMed cited publications. Professor Beattie is the author of multiple clinical revision texts, and the Oxford Handbook of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. He was President of the British Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition from 2010-13 and Editor in Chief of Archives of Disease in Childhood, BMJ from 2012-17

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS - If you wish to present your work at the conference, send your abstract to paedsoc@gmail.com as soon as possible - submissions close on the 25th of January 2018! This is an amazing opportunity for you to showcase your paediatric research projects.To be to able to present your work at the conference, please submit an abstract of no more than 300 words to paedsoc@gmail.com. Abstracts should clearly state the aims, methods, results and conclusions of the project. The best 3 abstracts will be chosen for an oral presentation, with the rest being presented in the form of a poster presentation. We will be holding a competition wherein the best oral and poster presentations will be awarded a prize at the conference.
