Event description

Description

The River Thames and the magnificent buildings, which sit alongside it, show London’s growth from a humble Roman trading post to a fascinating capital city. They reflect its splendour and grandeur and proclaim its status as a modern, dynamic, world force. The ancient and the historic meld effortlessly, with the glass and steel of the 21st century, creating an ever-changing skyline.

A day on the Southbank will introduce you to some of our most iconic landmarks, old and new, beginning with the world of espionage in Vauxhall followed by the pomp and politics of Church and State in Lambeth and Westminster.

The City of London declares London’s glorious mercantile past, but also its vibrant multicultural present. The Millennium heralded the birth of Hi-Tech architecture and gifted us nicknames, like the Gherkin, the Cheesegrater and the Walkie-Talkie. The Shard is an amazing feat of engineering, which defies gravity. It is there, high up in the clouds, that we will end the day, with a glass of champagne.

Accompanying us throughout will be the River Thames, which has witnessed ancient religious rites, ceremonial processions and fabulous pageantry. This royal highway has a whole host of stories to tell us on our journey.

The price includes the services of your lecturer, entry fees, a morning and afternoon tea/coffee break and a cocktail in the Shard.
