People, Planet, Pastry

If you’re interested or curious about sustainability, come along to the People, Planet, Pastry event to meet like-minded business owners who are taking action on sustainability. Learn about what is going on locally, share insights on how to overcome barriers and make new friends!

This relaxed and informal event brings people together to learn more about sustainability and take action.

The sister event, People, Planet, Pint, brings people together to learn more and chat about climate, while our “Pastry” series is focused on empowering small businesses with the action they can take and where to start with sustainability.

While we will mostly be discussing businesses, this is an open event where anyone is welcome, so if you’re curious about what’s going on, come on down!

Your Volunteer Host

Jill Poet is the co-founder and CEO of the Organisation for Responsible Businesses, a national member-owned, not-for-profit company limited by guarantee. ORB was launched in 2010 with a mission to “change the world, one small business at a time.” Prior to launching ORB, Jill spent 40 years working as, with, or for micro and small businesses as a management accountant. She is passionate about small businesses and their potential to create positive societal change by taking a very holistic approach to the sustainability agenda. Jill is also the author of Amazon bestseller “It Really Is Just Good Business: the art of operating a responsible, ethical and profitable small business.” She has lived in Southend for almost all her adult life – a long time! She is looking forward to meeting more local people who are keen to drive sustainability in her home city and beyond.

Venue

Garon Park CIC is a local project providing sustainability facilities that can be used to improve local health and wellbeing. Facilities include football pitches, running tracks, ‘men’s shed’, padel courts, café and more. The centre is used by numerous community groups. Vitality 1, to the left as you enter the grounds, is one of the portacabin hubs used primarily as a children’s education centre for children needing alternative education options.

About Us

Our Sponsor

Small99 is delighted to partner with Sage who will become our key People Planet Pastry sponsor.

The support of Sage will allow us to cover our event cost (including pastries), but also to expand to more cities and keep the conversations and decarbonisation actions growing.

Sage is helping SMBs decarbonise through tech solutions and education.

Conrad Langridge, Sage Earth:

We have seen the success of the People Planet Pint series run by Adam and the team, and having attended a number of sessions we know the value this is bringing the small business community, we wanted to support People Planet Pastry series to build on that success but in a way that focuses on SMB decarbonisation as a direct action."

A public transport enthusiast, a local councillor and an XR member walk into a bar. It's not a joke, it's a typical evening at People, Planet, Pint!
