Southend Soup is a community friendship and micro-granting project. It's for everyone, of all ages. Bring the kids, bring grandma, bring yourself. Even if you come alone, you'll find plenty of friendly people to chat with.
Soup is about fun as much as micro-funding. This one includes music from our regular 'house' band Warty Hubbard and his Magic Cupboard AND a very special guest from the Ekco Club: The King, Elvis himself, will be performing! (Otherwise known as Big J's Disco Entertainment - when he's being incognito.) Hopefully we'll have our friendly close-up magician/juggler Jobe too.
Have fun, enjoy soup, nibbles and drinks, and listen to a few five minute pitches for funding. Pitches are typically from individuals or small groups seeking to make a difference in their neighbourhood. The winner is the pitch that gets the most votes from everyone at the event.
People donate £5, or what they can afford, to attend - which is where the funding comes from. Children under 16 attend for free (unless they want to donate!) Find out more about how Soup works: https://southendsoup.wordpress.com/about/
We hold events at venues around the town and are grateful to Ekco Social & Sports Club for hosting our Spring Soup. There's a bar at the venue for anyone wanting something other than teas and coffees.
You don't need to pay now: donations are collected at the event. We ask that you book in advance so that we know how much soup to make!
