The UK space sector has seen excellent growth in the last decade. Satellite manufacture, however, is traditionally considered an artisan craft, each satellite designed to be unique and manufactured largely by hand. As a result, benefits of mass-manufacturing have largely passed the industry by. Equal challenges exist for satellite ground-segment technologies such as antennas and terminals, where classical manufacturing methods still prevail.

With the advent of new Industry 4.0 techniques and approaches, now is the time to challenge the traditional way of manufacturing in the space sector; both for satellites and ground segment. What does industry 4.0 hold for Space Manufacturing? What can be learnt from terrestrial manufacturing and what are the cutting edge technologies that can be spun-in from other sectors?

Hosted by Innovate UK, the Digital Catapult and London Economics, this workshop will explore the opportunities, drivers and barriers to the adoption and use of digitalisation technologies in space manufacturing. We would like to hear cross-sectoral views on what the future holds, and how UK government can assist in the adoption of these technologies within space and ground segment Manufacturing.
