SPACE are hosting a conference with Professor Tony Attwood who is flying over from Australia to join us.
About this event
With a career spanning five decades, Professor Tony Attwood is considered to be one of the world’s foremost experts on Autism Spectrum Disorder and we are thrilled he is flying over from Australia to join us for a one day conference for parents, carers and professionals.
Morning presentation
Cognitive Abilities: A Different Way Of Thinking And Learning Profile
The morning session will focus on the profile of cognitive abilities associated with ASD/Autism/Asperger’s syndrome. We will be exploring topics such as executive function, flexible thinking and coping with mistakes and sharing strategies that may help improve motivation, organisational skills and academic achievement.
Afternoon presentation
Adolescence and Autism
The afternoon session will be particularly focused on adolescent issues ranging from the physical aspects of puberty to changes in friendship, the development of sexuality, the change in academic expectations, emotion management, issues regarding self-esteem and also preparation for college and employment. It is not uncommon for children as young as 7 or 8 to begin to start signs of puberty and adolescence so it's never too early to be prepared.
This event will be of interest to parents, carers and professionals supporting children and young people (0-25 years) with or without a diagnosis of autism.
The conference takes place at a fabulous venue in central Hertfordshire, all food and refreshments are included for the day and there will be plenty of time to network and chat with other people attending the event.
Professor Tony Attwood is well known for sharing his knowledge of Aspergers Syndrome and Autism.
He has an Honours degree in Psychology, Masters degree in Clinical Psychology, and a PhD from the University of London. He is currently adjunct Associate Professor at Griffith University in Queensland.
Tony has written several books on Asperger's Syndrome. His seminal book, titled Aspergers Syndrome, has been translated into several languages. This is a unique opportunity to hear him speak in Hertfordshire.
