Description

Artistic Economies, models and values Talk

With Kathrin Böhm, artist and co-founder of Company Drinks, London and Marc De'ath, Cultural Partnerships Manager at Chelmsford City Council and co-founder of Colchester Makerspace

From artistic cooperatives, individual artists, artist-led no profit spaces to commercial galleries, there are many models for making, distributing and appreciating art. Drawing from the experiences of Company Drinks and Colchester Makerspace, the talk will map these different artistic economies and reflect upon the many ways of defining and sustaining artistic practices.

---

Kathrin Böhm is an East London-based artist whose collaborative work focuses on the collective (re-)production of public space, trade as public realm and the every day as a starting point for culture. Kathrin is a founding member of the international artist group Myvillages and art and architecture collective Public Works. In 2014 she set up Company Drinks, an ongoing artwork in the shape of a community drinks enterprise based in Barking and Dagenham, and the host of The Centre for Plausible Economies. In 2016, together with Rosalie Schweiker and many others, she co-produced the artist run Remain Campaign ‘EU-UK’, which now continues as ‘Keep it Complex - Make it Clear’. Böhm is the co-editor of numerous publications, including Learn to Act and The Rural published by Whitechapel Gallery and MIT.

Marc De'ath, will share his knowledge of creative collaborative economies, drawing on his experience working across the Cultural and Creative Industries. From his motivations for setting up the design studio Creative.Coop, to initiating the now closed, DIY performance venue, the Waiting Room project and co-founding the recently opened Colchester Makerspace.
