Satellite Application Catapult and Cardiff Metropolitan University are excited to invite you to attend the space research challenges sandpit event on the 29th July, Tuesday. Satellite communications (SatComm) are fundamental to modern space missions, providing the essential link between terrestrial systems and space-based assets. These systems depend on advanced technologies including high-performance antennas, sensors, solar power subsystems, and specialised RF and microwave relevant components. These elements constitute the core infrastructure required to ensure reliable data transmission, command and control, and system resilience across all mission phases from earth to low Earth orbit (LEO) exploration. This sandpit session is designed to the key stakeholders from across the space sector both in academia and industry experts to explore current and potential technical challenges in satellite communication technologies. The aim is to initiate high-impact, innovative research and development projects that respond to critical space challenges and innovative solutions. These collaborations are expected to generate advanced prototype designs, facilitate space orbit validation, and support the development technologies positioned for potential grant applications and future funding opportunities, strengthening the UK’s satellite communication technologies sector and its broader space industry.
