Spanish (Level 6):

Thursday 17:00 - 19:00 for 10 weeks

This course will take place every Thursday for 10 weeks. Class will begin at 5.00pm and end at 7.00pm.

Class Dates: Thursday 18, 25 January; 1, 8, 15, 22 February; 1, 8, 15, 22 March 2018


Learning Objectives:

Students taking the level 6 course should either have at least completed a GCSE examination in the subject, level 5 here at Queen’s, or have an equivalent knowledge of the Language. The aim of level 6 is to develop strong language skills, cultural awareness and grammatical ability, giving the student confidence in their ability and the basic competences needed to communicate in a working environment.

Whilst this course is not designed to be grammar intensive, students ought to have a grasp of the following:

Learning Outcomes:

Students will have developed a broad vocabulary in the topic areas outlined above and a comprehensive knowledge of all of the main grammatical themes. Students will understand frequently used words and phrases associated with everyday living, as well as working environments. Students will be able to hold discussions and discuss opinions.

What are the course fees?

There are different fees depending on registration type. All course fees are payable on enrolment.

Are these courses accredited?

A Queen's Certificate will be awarded to all students who attend regularly. A minimum of 70% attendance is required for certification. Note QUB Students, all Language classes (Languages for Non-Specialist courses) now count towards the University's Degree Plus Award (Route B). Degree Plus Award is a new award for Queen’s students designed to provide official recognition of extra-curricular activities including Language Centre language courses which are open to all students whatever their degree subject. Employers are looking for graduates who can demonstrate that they have the skills needed for workplace success – the Degree Plus Award will help you do this!

How often do I attend?

Classes, which usually last two hours, are held weekly, as far as possible outside normal university teaching hours (e.g. late afternoon, early evening, some are scheduled for Wednesday afternoon) and run for 10 weeks starting in October and again in February.

Is my registration fee transferrable?

Yes, if you feel after your first class that the level of language is too high/low, you can transfer to another class, provided that there is available space.

What's the refund policy?

All refunds must be requested in writing and accompanied by your payment receipt before the start of the course. For all registered students, refunds are not normally paid after the beginning of classes. Any such request must be made in writing to the Language Centre Manager and must be related to reasons beyond your control and supported by written evidence. These refunds will be at the Language Centre Manager’s discretion. All refunds, where agreed, will be subject to an administrative fee of £10.00 for QUB staff and students and £40 for members of the public.
