Spatula Carving with Adam Hawker

Spatula Carving with Adam Hawker

By Dorset Wildlife Trust

Overview

Join nationally renowned greenwood worker Adam Hawker, to learn how to carve a wooden spatula, an organic alternative to metal utensils.

Adam lives in West Dorset and runs greenwood carving courses across the UK. We are excited to be offering this new 2.5 hour shorter course for you to design and make your own wooden spatula to last. During this workshop you will, discover how to safely use the axe and knife, what to look for when selecting wood, spoon design, how to carve with confidence and develop a passion for this heritage craft whilst connecting with the natural world.

The spatula will be made from locally sourced greenwood and you will be able to create a unique spatula using the simple hand tools provided. It is then oiled and burnished to seal in the natural pattern of the grain.

After spending ten years swinging from trees as an arborist, Adam decided a job was needed where he could keep both feet firmly on the ground, whilst still being a part of the woodland around him. Having previously studied engineering, woodworking seemed a natural step, and working with the natural inclination of green wood soon developed into a passion.
