About this event

ON THE 1ST & 3RD SATURDAYS AND SELECT TUESDAYS EACH MONTH, SPEAK THE WORD RUNS A POETRY AND SPOKEN WORD WRITING WORKSHOP.

We're a friendly, inclusive and encouraging group. Whoever you are and whatever your relationship with poetry, we'd love you to join us.

Following on from an incredible series of poetry and spoken word workshops (2020 -21) with Roundhouse Slam Poet Rakaya Fetuga, through The Caraf Centre, several of us enjoyed the community so much that we've decided to continue the sessions.

Poet PJ Samuels opens the session with a wellbeing check-in and welcome, and Poet nudi, Nona, Maureen or PJ brings poems, artwork and prompts for inspiration.

There's no pressure to share what you write, so feel free to just come along and see how you like it!

Event time: 6–7.30pm (GMT/UTC)

Duration: 90 minutes

Accessibility: Captioning available, let us know if you have any other accessibility needs.

Queer & trans-affirming.

Our Speak the Word events are designed for adults (18+), and are not appropriate for those under the age of 18. We hope you find a supportive space elsewhere to nourish your poetry.

Organised by

Speak the Word is an online poetry collective that PJ Samuels and nudi co-organise. Other poets holding space for the collective include Maureen Medina, Nona Lea, NJ Holt, Tanya Denhere and Tarrine Khanom. We host weekly free-access poetry writing and editing workshops, and open mics.

We're welcoming, queer-led, and queer and trans-affirming.

The sessions are popular but low-key, relaxed, run as a safer space, close-captioned and working towards better accessibility. We’re also working to build capacity of poets willing to lead sessions, so speak up if that’s you!
