The event is organised by ELREC, in collaboration with the Community Safety Partnership and the Hate Crime Strategic Development Group at the City of Edinburgh Council in association with transport providers. The aim of the day is to bring together transport providers, public sector partners and equality groups together with a view to looking at:
- Working in partnership to ensure safety in public transport
- Removing the barriers to people reporting hate crimes / incidents in public transport
- Discuss and seek to address how transport providers can improve their response to incidents in public transport
It will revolve around the themes of the Speak Up, Speak Out initiative of the City of Edinburgh Council that encourages people to speak out about any instances of hate crime, verbal or physical abuse they have may have experienced or witnessed within public transport.
The half-day consultation will include an introduction to a Travel Charter on mainstreaming equality in public transport along with table discussions that will allow members of different equality groups to voice their concerns about the issues of safety and hate crime in public transport.
Representatives from public transport providers will be at the event to hear the concerns of the users from protected characteristics and answer any question. Conversely, the participants will also be able to listen to and discuss with transport providers. In order to make this event successful we would like to invite representatives/ clients from your group.
