Event description

Description

The Talk: Catholic Social Teaching emerged formally at the end of the 19th century as a response to the injustices of the Industrial Revolution and the threat of Communism. This seminar will explore whether it can provide a framework to help us discern the common good of our society in the 21st century.

The Speaker: Dr Philip McCarthy, Chief Executive Caritas Social Action Network, is a former family doctor and has held many leadership roles in the NHS, including clinical lead for the Bristol Homeless Health Service. He is a Master of Science in Global Ethics and has a strong interest in Catholic Social Teaching. In 2008 he walked alone from Canterbury to Rome, and in 2015 continued this journey on to Istanbul.
