Event description

Description

With the new specification GCSE now underway, it is imperative that teachers build up learners’ ability to listen and respond to language input in a spontaneous and authentic manner. This workshop, led by the IOE CI's Xiaoming Zhu and Philippa Vallely, focuses on the key skills required in the new GCSE specification and asks participants to consider how we can get students to that level.

By considering how we bring speaking and listening elements into the language learning experience, and deconstructing textbook materials and traditional activities, this interactive workshop asks teachers to consider their current practice, and consider how they can adapt their teaching styles to expand student’s fluency and accuracy.

This course is suitable for current mainstream secondary school teachers of Mandarin (native and non-native speakers) and those teaching GCSE will be prioritised. In the event that the course is over-subscribed, the IOE CI reserves the right to cancel bookings for teachers not working in mainstream secondary schools; however, if demand is sufficient enough we will try to repeat the event later in the year.

Bookings are limited to two teachers per school.

(Please not that lunch will not be provided on the day. We ask that participants either bring lunch with them or get their lunch during the hour break)
