Event Details

Cornwall is full of students who need to present their work; entrepreneurs pitching their ideas; and people attend job interviews everyday with a panel of interviewers or a presentation to deliver. There’s no getting away from the need to speak in public, yet it's our number one fear!

Almost half of all people consider themselves shy. Over 1 in 10 people experience generalised social anxiety, and 43% of students are socially anxious in public speaking.

You have to put yourself out there to achieve what’s truly important to you in life. Society seems to expect that we can all 'just do it', but it can be extremely scary when you’re not confident in your abilities, and many of us will go to great lengths to avoid public speaking.

That’s why we believe you need somewhere that feels safe to practise speaking out first.

Here, we're bringing like-minded people together to create a safe, supportive space where people of all ages who feel anxious or shy about public speaking can improve their speaking abilities and self-belief. It’s the friendly, reassuring space you need to grow your confidence so you can more easily achieve what's truly important to you in life.

How it works

Do you have some public speaking coming up?

Bring your speech, pitch or presentation and use the space to practise and gain valuable feedback while growing your confidence.

Don't have anything coming up and want to have a go at speaking in front of people?

Your encouraged to read from a book; introduce yourself or talk about something you're interested in. It's doesn't need to be a prepared speech, though you're welcome to come up with something especially for the sessions.

Spaces are limited so get your ticket early.

* We'll be asking for feedback about the way we run this session, and we'd love to know about the areas that you need support, so we can develop future sessions to best suit you.

Tickets

*Please pay what you can when choosing your ticket. As a social enterprise, every penny you're choosing to invest with us means we can support someone who's struggling to get the right help in overcoming feelings of social anxiety, shyness and self-doubt that have been holding them back in life.

Full-price tickets have enabled us to provide suicide interventions and affordable coaching for people who need it. For that person, this could mean feeling able to attend an appointment; starting to socialise; getting back to education; securing a job; taking steps to progress their career; or improving their health and wellbeing.

Thank you for your support.

Quiet Connections CIC

Quiet Connections is growing confidence through coaching and connecting people who are feeling socially anxious, shy or not good enough so they can live a happier life.

Supporting people through coaching, speaking club, workshops, peer support and social gatherings, Quiet Connections is connecting people who have similar stories so they feel understood; helping them to manage anxious feelings and appreciate their quiet strengths; and creating supportive spaces for trying new things, practising being heard and gradually stretching comfort zones amongst friends.
