Event description
Speaking Truth to Power: How to Have Difficult Conversations with Matt Greenough

About this event

Delivering bad news, speaking against the received wisdom, and telling our clients and bosses they’ve got something wrong – these are some of the toughest conversations we have in our working lives. But, difficult conversations are what keeps organisations from failing. Our willingness – and ability – to speak truth to power makes us more valuable colleagues, and more valuable members of society. This half-day course will cover how we can do this with confidence, and with impact.

Half-day Masterclass: What will you get out of the masterclass?

Working with a former Chief Special Adviser in the Welsh Government, you will:

  • Learn techniques to effectively deliver difficult messages
  • Work with other delegates to navigate real-life scenarios
  • Consider how to develop our leadership qualities

About the trainer

Matt worked as the Chief Special Adviser in the Welsh Government before starting his own communications consultancy, Words Matter Ltd. As the most senior adviser in Government, his job was to communicate complex and competing priorities internally for Ministers and the First Minister and shape external messaging for the media and stakeholders. During his career in politics Matt handled more crises than he cares to remember, working with senior politicians and officials to shape communications strategies. He continues to teach crisis communications, speechwriting, leadership techniques and media management to public sector leaders across the UK. As a trainer he leans heavily on his real-world experiences of working in a highly pressurised and political environment and works hard to ensure the courses have serious practical value to the participants.
