Event description

Description

We live in challenging times. There is a great need for churches to speak out and challenge injustice.

Do you want to put faith into action, and build a powerful social movement to end poverty and hunger in the UK?

Join supporters of Church Action on Poverty, and others who share a vision, for a morning of reflection, inspiration and action.

  • Hear from people on the margins who are speaking truth to power themselves through our Food Power programme and other initiatives.

  • Watch Edgelands, a film made by young activists exploring a range of issues that they themselves have experienced, including food poverty

  • Meet the local Church Action on Poverty North East group and learn about their amazing work

  • Hear how a local school has been proofing against poverty

  • Explore how churches and others can take action to transform the unjust systems that trap people in poverty

  • Get practical ideas for how your church or community can be more open to people on the margins

  • Meet and share ideas with like-minded folk from across the North East

  • Pray together and engage in Bible study

  • Learn about the making of the new film, Sorry We Missed You, with actor Deborah Honeywood

  • Find out about the work of the Gateshead Poverty Truth Commission

  • Pick up practical ideas and resources to engage your church in practical action, prayer and worship

Refreshments and lunch will be provided.

The 'Speaking Truth to Power' roadshow is supported by a generous grant from the United Reformed Church.
