Course Overview

The Promoting SEND Inclusion in Schools course is designed to equip educators and school staff with the knowledge and practical skills needed to support students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This course provides a comprehensive understanding of SEND, the legal requirements surrounding inclusion, and strategies for implementing inclusive practices in schools.

The course begins with Understanding SEND, offering a foundational overview of special educational needs and disabilities. This module explains the different types of SEND and the challenges these students may face in the classroom. It is followed by The SEND Code of Practice: 0 to 25 Years, where learners will explore the legal framework guiding SEND support across the educational system, from early years through to post-16 education.

In Inclusive Practice in Early Years, you will learn how to foster an inclusive environment in the foundational stages of education, focusing on early intervention and tailored support. The Safeguarding Children with SEND module covers the critical intersection of SEND and child protection, ensuring educators understand the safeguarding needs of SEND students.

A major focus of the course is on Health & Safety Legislation and Guidance, where you’ll gain an understanding of how to ensure safe practices for SEND students within educational environments, while adhering to relevant regulations. Reasonable Adjustments is another key module, which teaches how to make adjustments to learning environments, teaching methods, and assessments to meet the individual needs of SEND students.

The course also tackles Sustainable School Travel, emphasizing the importance of accessible and safe travel options for SEND students. Emergency Procedures highlights the protocols and safety measures schools should implement to respond to emergencies involving SEND students, ensuring all staff are prepared for a variety of situations.

Finally, Promoting SEND Inclusion for International Schools addresses the unique challenges and opportunities for promoting SEND inclusion in schools outside the UK, taking into account cultural, legal, and educational differences. The course concludes with a Final Quiz that tests your knowledge, followed by Handouts to reinforce key concepts.

Upon completion of this course, you will be equipped to create more inclusive and supportive learning environments for students with SEND, improving their educational experiences and outcomes.
