Special iApps Celebration 2016

Every year we hold a celebration to thank all our volunteers and beneficiaries. This year is going to be different. Our event is over 2 days at Northumbria University where we will be unveiling our new Teacher Manual as well as holding our first ever Impactathon.

On Saturday 26th November join us to celebrate Social Enterprise and Special iApps

If you don't know what a social enterprise does and haven't heard about Special iApps and want to learn more come along.

We'll be launching our new Teaching Manual allowing access to all parents, carers and professionals intrigued in alternative routes of education and development for their children and find out what we've been working on the past few months.

If you are a parent/carer or professional using our apps then please join us to celebrate our 5th year. You can also slip in a bit of Christmas shopping as well! We'll be creating content that we can use during our impactathon on the following day so need testimonials as well as new photos and videos. We love to hear your stories of how you use our apps with your children.

On Sunday 27th November Volunteer and be part of our Impactathon

We completely understand if you’ve never heard of an Impactathon. The best way to find out and be involved is to join in. As a heads up an impactathon is when people volunteer to help a social enterprise to increase their impact. It's hands on and fun and you'll learn more about social enterprise as well as digital skills as this year our aim is to increase our digital footprint.

The day focuses on all things skill based – ideal for students, budding media whizzes and anyone looking to enhance their content creation, social media, data entry or marketing skills.  Our aim is to optimize visibility for Special iApps, recruit new volunteers create new content for our website and social media and have fun with everyone involved!

Special iApps

Special iApps is a multi award-winning app developer based in the North East of England, founded in 2011 by Beverley and Colin Dean as a non-profit social enterprise. We couldn't find the apps we needed to teach our younger son William, who has Down syndrome. We found that most apps had too much going on in the background, weren't configurable or easily personalised, and didn't cater for William's limited finger skills. Over the years our apps have been enhanced to support children with a wide range of abilities and disabilities including autism, cerebral palsy, hearing and visual impairment. They are also used by typically developing pre-school children as well as adults with learning difficulties.  Find out more about us from our website:
