About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes

There are over 800 community-owned businesses in the UK today and 96% of those took some form of climate action last year. With record temperatures increasing, we all know the need has never been greater, and community-owned businesses are living examples of great things coming from individuals banding together.

We’re continuing our Environmental Action Special Interest Group which first met online in January and is open to anyone to drop into. We’d love for you to join us in an exchange of thoughts, ideas and discussion about what Plunkett might do, and what community groups might do to combat the climate crisis and bring their communities along with them.

Come along to listen, think and chat in a safe and respectful online space, as we continue our journey discussing what climate action looks like for a rural community business.

You are welcome to drop in even if you can't stay for the whole session.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know a lot about the environment or have already done lots of environmental work?

No! We are all trying to do what we can and we don't know what we don't know. This is a safe space for rural communities to talk and listen and think about what environmental action looks like and what it leads to. Plunkett needs your ideas and thoughts.

Do I need to have my camera on to join in?

No. It helps to see people's expressions in a discussion sometimes, but it's more important that you're comfortable. If you want to keep your camera off that's fine.

I can't stay for the whole session, can I still join in?

Yes absolutely - please join whenever you can we'd be delighted to have you.

What is the purpose / the outcomes from this group?

Plunkett wants to hear your ideas: what could we do better and how might we support community businesses to be gateways for their whole communities to take action? We want to provide a space for rural communities and groups to be able to listen, talk and think about this topic together.

The session is over lunchtime, can I eat while partaking?

Absolutely! We want as many people involved as possible so please feel free to enjoy your lunch during the event.

Organised by

We support rural communities across the UK to tackle the issues they face through community business. Community businesses are enterprises that are owned and run democratically by members of the community, on behalf of the community. They come in many forms, including shops, pubs, woodlands and anything that lends itself to community ownership.
