About this event

Plunkett UK is continuing the Special Interest Group for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion which began in January. It is open to anyone interested in listening, thinking, talking and growing their understanding of EDI in rural communities. The group is committed to meeting twice a year, online, and anyone may join in at any time.

This session will recap what was discussed last time and then focus more on the hidden diversity in rural communities. There will be speakers from both external organisations and community-owned businesses, plus a Plunkett UK adviser on hand to answer any questions.

We’re all at different starting points, and we all have things to learn and teach; join us in a safe and respectful online space to listen and chat with others as we think about what EDI in rural communities looks like, how Plunkett could take action, and what community groups might think about to ensure inclusion for everyone in their communities.

You are welcome to drop in even if you can't stay for the full session.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to have my camera on for this online event?

No. If you are more comfortable without your camera on, that's fine. It's helpful for interaction to be able to see people's expressions, but it isn't essential.

Do I have to know all about EDI already to take part?

Absolutely not! This is a safe, welcoming space for everyone to start learning and talking about EDI whether you know nothing and feel uncomfortable with that, or whether you have lived experience, or are not sure what EDI means or how it is relevant to you. Plunkett is on a journey - come with us!

What will be the purpose / outcomes of the Special Interest Group?

Plunkett wants to hear what we could do better and how we can support community businesses to take action and consider EDI too. We want to provide a space for rural communities to be able to listen, talk and think about EDI as their purpose is to benefit the WHOLE community.

Organised by

We support rural communities across the UK to tackle the issues they face through community business. Community businesses are enterprises that are owned and run democratically by members of the community, on behalf of the community. They come in many forms, including shops, pubs, woodlands and anything that lends itself to community ownership.
