With an abundance of lovely indie flavor and achingly beautiful South Dakota landscapes, East of Wall is a fine film that often feels like a documentary… a must-see for anyone who's ever loved watching horses run free, in whatever form they take. (Screen Anarchy)
About the film:
EAST OF WALL is an authentic portrait of female resilience in the ”New West" inspired
and played by the women and girls who live it. Set in the Badlands of South Dakota,
Tabatha, a young, rebellious rancher, who rescues and resells horses, must make hard
decisions to deal with her fractured family, financial uncertainty of losing her ranch, and
unresolved grief, all while providing refuge and the skills of the horse trade to a group of
wayward neighborhood teens.
Kate Beecroft, the director of the film says: I have spent three years living with this family. They allowed me to be a fly on the wall of their barn and trailer, absorbing every inch of their daily life in order to write this script and teach them how to
act. They trusted me to tell their unbelievable story of female resilience. I found myself rewriting and recapturing the West through their eyes … or, as Tabatha calls it, “The New West.”
When: Sunday, October 26th, doors 6.30pm, film start 7.00pm sharp
Where: Skye Gathering Hall Portree, 1934 Bank St, Portree IV51 9BZ
Tickets: 10 GBP at eventbrite or cash at door on the evening. FREE for 21y and under.
East of Wall is a quietly impressive 'slice of life' semi-biographical drama about the struggles of a widow to keep her ranch in business and her family intact. (culture mix)
East of Wall is an immensely enriching experience to lovers of the modern western as well as those looking for a tender character drama. (in session film)
An emotional exploration of grief that ultimately tells an uplifting story of resilience. Beecroft is giving a new twist by making this a docufiction and a fresh perspective on the Western genre. (flix chatter)
Moving, authentic, it feels like you're really spending time with this community of people. (Rachel’s reviews)
About our Q&A guests:
KATE BEECROFT
Kate Beecroft is a Los Angeles based writer and director who graduated from Royal Central School of
Speech and Drama in London. Her acting background has given her a deep love and respect for those
she works with on-camera. She loves to street cast her own projects, gravitating and unearthing the
magic of those who don’t see it within themselves.
TABATHA ZIMIGA
Tabby was raised between Igloo and Pine Ridge, South Dakota—badlands country. She came up on a
ranch where the wind don’t quit and neither do the women. Ranch life is in her blood—she’s had reins
in her hands since before she could walk, and rodeo dirt under her nails ever since.
For the past 18 years, she's passed that grit and grace on—teaching the
next generation of rodeo kids the ropes, the ride, and the respect. But it’s the horses no one wants that
call to her most. The wild ones. The outlaws. The renegades.
Skye Community Cinema supports young local talent. We are happy to show the short film HOOKED, made by Portree High School students/ Skye Youth Film Club in collaboration with the Scottish Youth Film Foundation.
Our collaboration with Skyeskyns is back! Very happy we have the sheep fleeces back on our chairs for a comfy seating in the colder months :)
