This year’s Special schools, specialist and alternative provision conference is based around the theme “Creating stability in changing times”.
Starting on the evening of 9 March, this year we have an optional panel debate with leading SEN experts followed by a networking dinner with the speakers. After dinner we will hear from NAHT general secretary Russell Hobby. This evening gives delegates the chance to put forward their questions to the panellists and to expand their network by meeting colleagues from around the country – whether you work in a special school or are the SEN lead in a mainstream school
The main conference starts on the morning of 10 March with opening keynote speaker Will Ord who will talk about ‘Effective school evolution’ to help schools to develop growth mind sets and thinking and communication skills.
During the day you will have the opportunity to take part in three specially commissioned workshops – click on the workshop title below for more information about each one.
- How Ofsted evaluates SEND provision in schools
- Assessment for SEND students from the outcomes of the Rochford review
- Securing stability through the introduction of the National Funding Formula for Schools and High Needs
- Engaging your students in Parliament and democracy
- The SENCo as a Manager and Leader – how to lead SEND provision effectively in your schools
- Restriction and Deprivation of liberty: Ofsted’s interpretation and the law
- Engaging Learners with Complex Needs; From Neurons to Neighbourhoods.
- Coming to the Tribunal: Naming a school in an EHC Plan (please note this session is only available in the morning)
Along with networking time and a chance to talk to SEN specific exhibitions, the day will end with Dr Rona Tutt OBE looking at “Present prospects: forecasting the future”. As a former head teacher and NAHT Past National Officer, Dr Rona Tutt received an OBE for her services to special needs education and is well placed to close our conference.
