Specialist Knowledge for Teaching Mathematics(Primary Teacher) Work Group 3
Event Information
About this event
What is involved
The programme is based on four core primary modules:
• Number sense
• Additive reasoning
• Multiplicative reasoning
• Fractions
Teachers will enhance their maths subject knowledge with an emphasis on the key structures in each mathematical area listed above. Time will be spent exploring the key elements that form number sense, including precise language, structures and representations. Teachers will be expected to review their own practice as a result of the sessions and make adaptations to their teaching.
Who can apply?
This Work Group is designed for teachers who would like to further develop their specialist knowledge for teaching maths. They will be particularly relevant for NQTs/RQTs, teachers that have moved phases or teachers that have not received maths-specific training.
What is the cost?
There is no cost for schools. Maths Hub professional development is funded through the DfE
Benefits
It has long been recognised that maths teaching is enhanced when the teachers are confident about the subject matter. This Work Group aims to increase maths subject and pedagogical knowledge leading to increased teacher confidence and more effective maths teaching.
Expectations
Participants will be expected to attend all the sessions and complete intersessional tasks.
Covid Recovery
The risk of cross contamination between schools is too high for us to consider face-to-face Work Groups. Therefore, all Work Groups will take place online this year.
