Specialist Module NICU Placement - Southmead Hospital, Bristol 2025/26

Within the specialist module HEAC397SW all learners are required to undertake 150hrs of supernumerary ICU experience.

This may be achieved by clinical experience within your base unit and/or a placement in an NICU within the SW network.

Below are the hospital allocations for ICU placements for all units (If you have personal circumstances which require a different location for a placement, please discuss this with the module team)

Process for arranging placement:-

1 - Agree duration and possible dates of placement with your employing manager

2 - Explore placement availability at the correct hospital (see above) on the placement booking system and reserve your placement weeks.

3 - Contact the unit ? HR?? to receive the Hon con application paperwork. - TBC

4 - Commence the relevant honorary contract application process immediately as this will take time to process and this must be in place prior to your starting the placement.

5 - Keep track of you application with regular communication with the host hospital HR department to ensure your contract is processed in time for you placement.

6 - Inform the Lead Nurse and Education teams at both the host unit and your base unit that your Hon contract is in process, and when it is confirmed as completed.

7 - Contact the clinical facilitator within the placement unit well in advance of your placement staring, to ensure that you receive all preparatory information and rota.
