Join us for our second Waxcap survey of the season exploring the world of fungi!

What to expect:

Watch bats in action: Observe bats foraging and commuting in their natural habitat

Learn how to use bat detectors: Listen to different bat calls using bat detectors

Identify different species: Learn to identify different bat species based on call and flight patterns

Whether you are a beginner or wildlife enthusiast, this session will provide you with the opportunity to put your knowledge in to practice and gain hands-on survey experience.

Please note, this session is following up from a workshop hosted on the 25th of February to introduce bat ecology and survey methodology.

Frequently asked questions

Will I need to bring anything with me?

We will provide the necessary equipment , but if you have a torch please bring it with you to site. We also advise that you bring some snacks with you and wear appropriate footwear and clothing for the weather conditions on the day.

What happens if it rains?

We usually go ahead whatever the weather, we would only reschedule in extreme circumstances. If it’s really bad we will make a judgement call the day before or on the day of the event.

Will there be toilet facilities available?

Volunteers will have access to the toilet at the Community Hub.

Will we stop for a break?

We will not have a designated break time during our survey as the session is late in the evening and is only 2 hours long. Feel free to take a break if you need one.
