GUEST PRESENTATION by CATHY PARVIN of Dyspraxia Education

Cathy Parvin trained initially as a Registered General Nurse, trained and specialised in Orthopaedic Nursing. She was the Education Officer for the Dyspraxia Foundation and is the director of Dyspraxia Education.


Samantha McFarlane and Joanna Parkes, Learning Support Team, will lead you through 3 sessions on Specific Learning Difficulties. Each will outline the condition, how to identify characteristics, the barriers to learning and, importantly, how schools can support CYP with Specific Difficulties.

Session One - Dyslexia affects 10% of the population. 50% of children with dyslexia have DCD! We will look at the co-morbidity of specific learning difficulties.

Session two presented by Cathy Parvin -Dyspraxia/ Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) is a common developmental condition, thought to affect between 2-6% of people. Cathy will explain how dyspraxia/DCD impacts on the child and will offer some simple but effective strategies for a busy classroom.

Session three- Dyscalculia is a condition that affects the ability to acquire arithmetical skills. Around 5-8% of pupils suffer from dyscalculia. A look at key Maths skills.
