Description

Spelling – Subject Knowledge

‘We did really well at the Grammar test but the spelling let us down -  many children scoring less than 5 out of 20.’

The teaching of spelling can be an issue in many schools. We follow the National Curriculum objectives, buy in a scheme, regularly teach spelling but it fails to improve the quality of our pupils’ spelling.

This course will cover the subject knowledge required to fully understand the spelling rules and anomalies of the English Language. Delegates will become confident with such terminology as: morphology and etymology and how this knowledge can greatly enhance the teaching of spelling in all primary classrooms.

This course would be open to all; teachers and teaching assistants

Teresa is an independent Literacy consultant, working in Sheffield schools for the last 10 years. Over the last 2 years she has been heavily involved in supporting schools with the implementation of the new National Curriculum, particularly the SPAG agenda. She works with teachers and teaching assistants to develop subject knowledge and to ensure that the children are given the best experiences that allows their writing to flourish.

The cost of this event is £90+ VAT, or 1 LUTSA  Credit (see www.lutsa.co.uk for details of the CPD package)

Coffee and registration from 8:30.  The course will begin at 9
