SPEP Workshop: Open Eco Homes events
Tue 9 May 2017, 19:00 – 21:00 BST
Open Eco Homes events are a brilliant way of helping people make energy saving improvements to their homes. At an Open Eco Homes event, people living in homes where they've made eco-friendly improvements open their doors to the public and share their experiences, both good and bad. This enables people to get impartial advice about the pros and cons of renewable energy technologies, insulation measures and heating systems and really get a sense as to whether they are right for them. They are tried and tested across the country with one of the longest established events organised every year by Cambridge Carbon Footprint. Homes in Girton, Stapleford, Coton and Granchester have already been part of this - we'd like to see if we can get Open Eco Homes running in many more villages in South Cambridgeshire because it's such a great idea.
The workshop is for you if
- you live in a low energy/low carbon home* and might be willing to open your home to the public
- you would like to find out about organising an Open Eco Home event in your parish
- you are just interested in finding out more
At the workshop Tom Bragg of Cambridge Carbon Footprint will explain how an Open Eco Homes event works including different approaches such as 'drop-ins' or booked visits and tours. We're hoping to have a householder telling us what it's like to open your home to the public. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion and to finish off, we'll show you our new thermal imaging cameras which will be available to borrow in the autumn.
