Description

Join Lawrence Bee from the Field Studies Council to learn about spiders with an emphasis on field identification of families and genera. Indoors will be spent learning basic spider families, ecology and natural history before we head out to the surrounding site to survey for spiders. Various collection techniques will be used across the sites.

About the site - National Trust Wetland Centre

Parking is free, Bus route12 and 22. The Wetland Centre is situated overlooking La Mare au Seigneur (St Ouen’s Pond) SSI nature reserve. Surrounding lands; Le Noir Pre orchid field and Les Mielles Nature Reserve.

About the Tutor - Lawrence Bee is an ecological consultant and educator. He has authored the Field Studies Council Guide to House and Garden Spiders and the lead author of the recently published Britain’s Spiders – a field guide. Lawrence is visiting Jersey for the weekend to run this course and will also be holding a public talk on Friday evening.

What to Bring

  • Long trousers and sturdy footwear such as trainers or walking shoes.

  • Waterproof if the weather looks like rain.

  • Packed lunch

  • Water bottle

  • Field notebook and pencil

  • Hand lenses (optional as we have them provided)

  • Copies of the following publications would be useful if you have them (optional)
