Spin a Tale, Spin a Thread
Overview
Spin a tale, spin a thread.
Join storyteller Frankie Regalia for a magical, multisensory journey through the history and folklore of flax, spinning, and the shifting meaning of the word spinster. This family friendly event is part of Groam House Museum’s Community Connections through Collections project, funded by Museums and Galleries Scotland.
Just as flax spinning and weaving transformed from a highly skilled craft to an industrialised process, the cultural role of the spinster – once respected, later maligned – changed with it. Through stories, objects, and hands-on exploration, Frankie traces the threads that connect:
✨ Flax and fibre
✨ Gender roles and identity
✨ Community traditions
✨ Our relationship with the environment
