Event description
Join heritage expert Jonathan Schofield for a series of guided walking tours, exploring the exciting history of Spinningfields.

About this Event

On Wednesday 5 August, from 12pm, uncover the dramatic history of Deansgate.

Find out about how Deansgate, an old Roman Road with a possibly Viking-inspired name, was the street down which cavaliers attacked the town in English Civil War, but also where fashion took root in the nineteenth century. Hear about how it is still host to the oldest family-owned music shop in Europe, and discover the stories of the pubs, still here and disappeared. Plus, learn about a room that used to host the Club for Fat Men and how the Devil came to Manchester.

This is part of a series of free monthly walking tours, which will depart from The Little Library on Hardman Square at midday, on the first Wednesday of every month. Each tour is limited to 35 places and will last approximately 40-60 minutes.
