Event description
Join heritage expert Jonathan Schofield for a series of guided walking tours, exploring the exciting history of Spinningfields.

About this Event

On Wednesday 6 May, from 12pm, uncover the spooky history of Spinningfields.

Discover the story of the Ice Maiden ghost, featuring the tragedy of a ship called Emma, stirring deeds and pioneering science. Known as the North’s mini-Danube, separating the two cities of Manchester and Salford, The River Irwell was once a famously sweet river, teeming with life, trout and salmon. Find out how, after 200 years of pollution, brown trout are back and the developers have turned to face the river once more.

This event is part of a series of free monthly walking tours, which will depart from The Little Library on Hardman Square at midday, on the first Wednesday of every month. Each tour is limited to 35 places and will last approximately 40-60 minutes.
