Sat 22 October 2016, 19:30 – 21:00 BST
Join The GAF Centre for an evening of spanish guitar music by musician Mark Jennings. This will be a wonderful music with tapas being provided.
Mark has been playing classical guitar for most of his life having started lessons from an early age. He attended the London College of Music, studying classical guitar performance with Carlos Bonell. He later had lessons with Gary Ryan (Royal College of Music), Paul Gregory, Forbes Henderson, Graham Devine (Trinity College of Music), and again with Carlos Bonell (Royal College of Music). As a student Mark performed in many public international masterclasses hosted by other such distinguished artists as Roland Dyans, John Mills, David Russell and Berta Rojas. Since leaving music college, he has enjoyed performing in many parts of the UK. Mark recognizes the importance of being alive to other interests and of having ‘broad horizons’. During the 1990s Mark combined his enthusiasm for performance with studies at Birkbeck College (University of London) from where he holds a BA (hons) degree in History, Philosophy and Politics. After graduation, his interest in philosophy took him to University College London where he was awarded an M.Phil and Ph.D in Philosophy.
Mark has enjoyed a variety of successful musical collaborations with other musicians. In the early 1990s he was a member of the Baroque Players, which he co-founded with his peers at the conservatoire. More recently he has performed as a guitar duo with Peter Rueffer, founder of The Pro Arte Trio and Music Director of the Dillington International Classical Guitar Festival.
Mark is also keen to play with other types of instrumentalists. He has more recently formed the Paganini Duo, for violin-guitar, which includes at various times the violinists, Tim Callaghan, formerly of the Covent Garden Orchestra, and Head of Strings at Christ’s Hospital, and Andrew Wickens of The Philharmonia Orchestra.
