Event description

Description

Get intimately acquainted and nurture your relationship with a herb this February with our monthly intimate circle designed to fully familiarise you with the physical and spiritual uses of an easily accessible plant ally.

Each month Kathie will be focusing on a different herb that can easily be found or grown in London that month, and we will get fully immersed with each herb in the same way our ancestors did, via our senses and our experience with it. This is an ancient way of experiencing herbs, made relevant for our modern times.

We will open each circle with an element of surprise in that the herb for this month will not be disclosed beforehand. This allows for us to use our senses and experience fully, without engaging our analytical minds.

We will use sight, smell, taste, mouthfeel, drawing, descriptive emoting, meditation and feeling the actions it has in the body, to glean what we can about the herb, using fresh herb material gathered locally that day, and a tea made of the same.

This will allow us to experience the plant on an emotional, mental and magical level through meditating with the plant, and experience the plant on a physical level, with our senses and through imbibing it as a water infusion.

Once we have fully explored the herb in this way, Kathie will reveal which herbs we have been working with (if not yet guessed) and after a short break we then delve into the second part of the workshop, which covers the herb’s:

  • Botanical description and habitat - inc where you might find it in London and how you can grow it
  • Folklore
  • Historical uses
  • Current uses
  • How to use it yourself at home
  • A simple recipe that you can take home to use

Takeaways will be:

  • A deeper connection and relationship to this plant ally
  • Understanding better how to use this herb in your daily life
  • And a better understanding of any insights this plant may have for your life
  • How to nurture or forage for this plant

Please bring a notebook for any notes and any art materials you may feel inspired to use in the session.

I can’t wait to meet you!

Kathie is a medical herbalist at thewyldeherbalist.com and founder of Into the Wylde. As well as the medicinal side of herbs, she has a deep fascination with, and wonder for, the emotional, spiritual, historical and folkloric side of these wonderful plant allies. Getting to know the character of a herb in this way deepens our understanding of how it can be used and we start to create a mutually beneficial relationship with it. She graduated from The University of Westminster, London in 2009 with a first class BSc (Hons) degree in Western Herbal Medicine, and is a member of the British Herbal Medicine Association (BHMA) and of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists (NIMH), the oldest professional body for medical herbalists in the UK. To book a one-to-one consultation with her, click here, and to find out more about Into the Wylde, click here.

Please indicate when booking any medicines you may be on, any allergies or if you are pregnant so that Kathie can ensure the session is safe for you. All information is treated confidentially.

Accessibility: The main farm site itself is accessible, however the workshop room is only accessed by a flight of stairs and during some workshops we may enter horticulture areas that have uneven ground. If you have any accessibility requirements please email rebecca@surreydocksfarm.org.uk before booking.
