Description

This session will introduce a transformational change model, based on the Enneagram, which is particularly powerful for spiritual coaching. The Enneagram is an ancient and modern system for understanding personality and change. This practical, interactive introduction will also provide a brief introduction to the Enneagram types.

I would define spiritual coaching as any process that enables clients to explore and encounter their deepest existential and spiritual needs, and develop their spiritual practices and behavioural flexibility in order to be more at peace with themselves and more resourceful in the world. Please do disagree with me on this, but that’s where I will start this session from!

I often use the Enneagram as a structure for spiritual coaching. Most people know the Enneagram as a personality tool which describes 9 drivers we all use, and enables each client to identify their core pattern, its gifts and the traps of its overuse.

However, the Enneagram is also a powerful change model which can be used as the basis of the entire coaching journey, and this is where is it particularly useful in spiritual coaching. This use of the Enneagram as a map for spiritual development will be my focus in the session with you.

The Enneagram as a psychological model has its origins in the transpersonal movement of the 1970s, but the issues it works with and the strategies it uses can be found in all the great wisdom traditions. However, the Enneagram does not belong to any particular religion and can be used in a secular or spiritual context. Neither is the Enneagram trademarked; its 20th century developers wanted to ensure that it is available to as wide an audience as possible.

During the session you will:

- Learn the key stages of the Enneagram as a developmental and change model

- Discuss its use as a coaching approach with spiritual coaching clients

- Experience the 9 Enneagram drivers, their gifts and pitfalls

- Find out about resources and training opportunities for spiritual coaching using the Enneagram.
