Splitboarding Greenland by yacht (venue change)
Overview
The final Peak lecture will take place at the Yorkshire Bridge Inn, Ashopton Road, Bamford, Hope Valley S33 OAZ. The venue has changed from the previously advertised at The Sir William Hotel in Grindleford.
The presentation on Wednesday, 3rd December 2025 will include a talk by Chris Yap covering an adventure he did earlier this year using splitboarding from a yacht in Greenland.
With their two UIAGM guides, they splitboarded a minimum of 1200m vertical per day and rode down in what was usually untouched powder to the opposite side of the island where they were picked up from the shore again by the schooner. The lines they rode were varied – they rode big steeps of nearly 40 degrees, raced through an incredible winding canyon run and surfed down one of the enormous couloirs, all of them with a sea view leading them back down to shore. Every day wearing harness, carrying boot crampons and axes, it was not uncommon to have to fashion an exit to the beach after riding – on some days it was a bushwhack and on their last day it was a full on abseil back down to the shore.
Please pre-book (£3) through Eventbrite in advance. If you wish to eat before the talk please make your own arrangements with The Yorkshire Bridge Inn. We recommend that you book a table for either before or after the slide show, and mention the ESC Peak lecture. Book table here
